About the event
Qweshunga is more than a word, it's a movement memory, a healing ritual, and a radical invitation to return to ourselves.
Qweshunga is a restorative gathering rooted in African feminist principles where play, joy, movement, storytelling, and stillness come together to help us heal, connect, and thrive. It’s a word from western Uganda that loosely translates to “playfullness” or “loosening up” which is exactly what the experience offers: a space to shake off the weight, be fully human, and remember who we are when we’re not performing, producing, or pretending.
At its heart, Qweshunga is about collective healing through joy and embodiment. It was birthed as a response to the burnout, trauma, isolation, and hyper-productivity that so many feminists, activists, and everyday people navigateespecially in African and diaspora contexts.
It’s a deliberate space to:
Pause and breathe
Play as protest and power
