On Thursday, August 23rd, CivSource Africa in partnership with Qweshunga Initiative Limited announced the launch of the 5th edition of the Gathering of Givers in Uganda which will take place on September 28th, 2024, at the Ndere Cultural Centre from 9:00 AM till late.
The Gathering of Givers is an annual event that brings together local philanthropists to celebrate the power of giving back and foster a culture of generosity within Ugandan communities. This year's theme, "Our Generous Spirit," highlights the vital role young people play in shaping a brighter future for Uganda.
“The Gathering of Givers is an opportunity for us to celebrate the idea of philanthropy. Many times people are asked if they are philanthropists, and they say no, and when asked if they are givers, they say yes. Why? Because philanthropy comes off like it is Western giving; it is foreign; it is a lot of money, but those two worlds are really synonymous. You are a philanthropist if you are a giver” - Malcom Mpamizo, Team Lead at CivLegacy Foundation.
“We are all givers in our African heritage; we are brought up to give, because as you are growing up, you are being given. When you grow up, then it’s an obligation for you to give. When you are budgeting for your salary at the end of the month, you have 10% that has to go to Auntie so and so, to Uncle so and so, to a cousin who needs some school fees. No one is holding a gun to your head to be able to do that. The generous spirit lives within us, and so we feel that the Gathering of Givers will give us an opportunity to celebrate that giving spirit.” he adds.
This year’s event will feature influential speakers, engaging conversations, and collaborative sessions focused on harnessing the power of generosity and social responsibility. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with like-minded peers who share a commitment to positive change, learn from successful projects led by young Ugandans making a difference, and also get a chance to network with mentors and fellow young givers.
“Giving can be different and can be celebrated. We can all come together and celebrate this big culture that is born with us, lives with us and stays on even after we have gone.” - Penelope Sanyu, Team lead at Qweshunga Initiative Limited.
Tickets to the Gathering of Givers are being sold at 10,000 UGX for students with identification cards and 20,000 UGX for young adults via Karizim(https://shop.karizm.com/event/Gathering_of_Givers)
